The European Commission has imposed a record-breaking fine of €1.8 billion on tech giant Apple, following an investigation initiated in 2019 after a complaint by Spotify.
The fine was issued under the European Union's antitrust legislation, citing the abuse of Apple's dominant position in the market for music streaming app distribution to iPhone and iPad users.
The company had implemented restrictions on application developers, preventing them from utilizing cheaper music subscription services outside of the designated app, according to the investigation.
